Plastic Turkeys

Turkey

This holiday season the Food Pantry is requesting gift cards to local grocery stores in the amount of $10 and $20 to distribute to families who need a turkey for the holidays.

Due to freezer and refrigerator space limitations, gift cards make for easier storage and also allow clients an opportunity to shop themselves.

Adopt A Family Program

snowmanThe Adopt-A-Family Program has been in existence for over 13 years, offering low-income families served by Beverly Bootstraps Community Services, Inc., gifts and clothing for their children during the holidays. Matched with generous donors, over 211 families were served in 2009, totaling over 430 children.

Our Outreach staff interviews each family individually, extracting information regarding their family situation along with a list of their children’s hobbies and interests.   We then create an “anonymous family profile” attached with a cover letter.   This profile is used as a guideline to give donors a snapshot of the family and the families’ requests.   Bootstraps Community Services requests that you do only what you can; any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

In addition to the sponsored Beverly and Manchester families, we are always are in need of Gift Cards to local stores and generic gifts to aid families who come in days before the holiday without any gifts for their children.  To find out more about this program, please email Julie Murphy.

Gift Of Heat

cold_thermA much-needed and critical program was established in 2007 through the Adopt-A- Family Program. After completing over 170 intakes for the Adopt-A-Family Program, and listening closely to our clients, we found a consistent concern, and the question, “how I am going to afford heat?” We saw a need and took action; 37 families were kept warm while creating and managing this pilot program.

With the help of our generous donors, we were able to continue our Adopt-A-Family Program and supplement it with the Gift Of Heat Program. Gift of Heat donations are accepted at any time through out the year. We begin the disbursement in late fall and continue through spring.

It is because of our established relationships and ongoing work with our clients, we can determine who is in need of heat assistance. Additionally, we talk with local oil companies to insure that we service the families and individuals properly and effectively. We also ask that clients apply for fuel assistance through NSCAP or Action before we conduct an intake.

Once funds have been distributed to a family, donors receive a profile and overview of their situation so that they will know exactly how their funds are used and applied to help those in need.

Your Gift of Heat donation will have a dramatic impact on children, young adults, parents and seniors this upcoming winter season. We ask donors include a memo with their donation noting the Gift Of Heat, and if you’d like it in honor or memory of a family member or friend, please so indicate.
